Sea Change: T1

Back to Sea Change.

Scribbles: Basically based around the idea that sea happens on 5 domains- Sub, Sea, Hover, Land and Air. Need units to fight in all 5. Basic proposal has little to no multiroling (other than the requirement that Sea-Land is gonna hit Sea and Hover, and Sea-Sea is going to need to hit Hover or hit Sub). Including Destroyer/Missile Ship gives more multirolling. These are one-fac designs, to cut down on sea (sea isnt played much, doesnt need so many ships).

Evil4Zerggin:

  • I think your plan looks pretty good whether it ends up being the only dedicated sea or not.
  • In any case, I think we can all agree to start from the front part of the game first and worry about later-game options after the beginning is worked out. I'll work on new models as time permits.

Saktoth:

  • It might look good but please offer suggestions- this wont be the final state. Things never work in implementation as well as they do on paper, its all subject to change.
  • Best to get the gameplay in place before committing to models. If, say, we wanted to go for a 'depthcharge ship' that already means the destroyer model would have to be edited.

Evil4Zerggin:

  • Regarding multiroling: My first judgment says to multirole the Destroyer and Missile Ship. My reasoning:
    • Arm Patrol Boat should have a laser; IMO unarmed surface scouts = fail. Thus neither the Patrol Boat or Torpedo Boat will be absolutely dedicated anti-air or anti-sub. With this in mind, I think making the Destroyer and Missile Ship also not absolutely dedicated makes better symmetry; this way neither side is biased toward anti-air or anti-sub, though they are still different.
    • Furthermore, each side needs something good against fixed defenses, whether by outranging them or skirmishing in with a powerful shot and leaving to reload before the defenses can deal much damage; since Carrier/Monitor is going to be expensive it's not really feasible in this role during the early part of the game.
  • What is the plan for the Surfboard?
  • Will we have a mobile radar option?

Saktoth:

  • I think some mutli-roling is good too, and mixing up which roles intersect is a good way to create faction diversity.
  • Most ships are o-k vs static D, and FHLTS can be taken out by subs, but if the enemy is really really porcing, you can probably afford one of the capships. I dont actually think royers should outrangee HLT and im unsure about the TL.
  • Surfboat, i think we can fix the script and keep as-is. Core should probably get a mass-transport though. Surfboard isnt that unique or useful. The only problem with surfboat is com- both naps and transporting.
  • Aforementioned support boat perhaps? Though if it has an antinuke/shield/cloak it'd probably have to be pretty expensive. Perhaps carrier/battleship but, again, expensive.

Arm

Construction Ship

  • "Diligence"-class.
  • Cost ~225 (current).
  • Good nano power and speed, fair hit points.

Patrol Boat (Sea-Air)

  • "Haste"-class.
  • Cost ~75 (current).
  • Will it keep its laser?
  • How powerful will its AA weapon be? I doubt the old missile can hold off current gunships; would it be buffed?

Corvette (Sea-Sea, Hover)

  • "Furious"-class.
  • Cost ~325 (current).

Depthcharge Ship (Sea-Sub) OR Destroyer ("Frigate"?) (Sea-Sub, Land, Sea)

  • "Formidable"-class.
  • Cost ~725 (current).
  • Depthcharges anti-sub only, or target surface ships as well?

Sub (Sea-Sea, Sub)

  • "Guile"-class.
  • Cost ~550 (current).

Carrier (Sea-Land, Sea)

  • "Tenacity"-class.
  • Cost ~2500?
  • Drones to be anti-land only, or attack both land and air?

Core

Construction Ship

  • Cost ~225 (current).
  • "Auger"-class.
  • Good nano power and speed, fair hit points.

Torpedo Boat (Sea-Sub)

  • "Harpoon"-class.
  • Cost ~150?

Corvette (Sea-Sea)

  • "Sabre"-class.
  • Cost ~325 (current).

Missile ship (Sea-Air, Land, Sea).

  • "Javelin"-class.
  • Cost ~600?

Sub (Sea-Sub, Sea)

  • "Balisong"-class.
  • Cost ~550 (current).
  • Do we want to differentiate Arm/Core subs significantly somehow?

Monitor (Sea-Land, Sea)

  • "Glaive"-class.
  • Cost ~2500?
  • Lots of broadside deck guns
  • Perhaps a paddleboat monitor look? Will take some doing to keep this from looking silly, though.
