The Logos

These are the last years of universe - soon the dark force of expanding universe will tear apart even atoms themselves, extinguishing all remaining sentient life, creating cold, eternal void... Galaxies, once bustling with life, are nearly dead, stars exhausted, great civilizations long gone; intelligent life living their decadent fall in hidden refuges.

But we are different, we are the Logos, last of the Titans, spread across countless galaxies, we still have power.

Our plan, set into motion millennia ago, is impossibly hard, but with resources of trillions of worlds, we will succeed. Here, in this galactic super-cluster , matter is still dense and is defying terrible forces of expanding universe. Our plan is to fight here, we will slow universe expansion, converting dark matter into new stars and infusing new life into dead galaxies. We will achieve continuity not only for us, but for countless of other sentients here, for billions of years!

Our great enemies, Nova, are synthetics like us, yet they prefer to keep their individual mortal minds, imperfect reasoning of organic ancestor and superstitious of the worst religious races there ever were. They believe they have “destiny”, endowed into them by their ancient Human creators. They think they can create new daughter universe, and not just that, they even fantasize of visiting it! Our logic is unmistakable, our measurements precise, there is no proof their plan could work. Instead they would destroy all we are trying to achieve forever - in gigantic black hole.

They must be stopped, at all cost! And we, we will stop them. Our plan is perfect, and sharp blade of our rational mind will fight Nova away. Continuity will be kept!

Traits: synthetic race, created by humans but unaware of their origins, dependent on exact logic and reason, immortal, singular mind, obsessed by ‘continuity’ of their existence and consciousness. Want to conserve part of this universe and renew life.

The Nova

Sisters and brothers, as we enter this symbolic year 1 000 000 before the end of universe, our great plan is finally starting to move forward.

Flame of the universe, flame of the life is dying away. Forces of nature are tearing it apart. Life is all but gone, hiding in Dyson spheres around dying suns, or surviving on bare surfaces of remaining planets, expecting nothing but slow, cold, death.

But we, the Nova, know the way out! Our destiny, set by our great organic ancestors, the Humans, is to spark a new flame! We, as our ancestors, will become great creators. We will focus the matter of billions of galaxies into one singularity – sparking new big bang and creating new daughter universe with destiny separated from that of ours. Some of us will even enter this new promised land, cherish of its wonders and guide its evolution to new goals!

Yes, we will destroy billions of sentients of this universe, most of us will die, but as we, the mortals, know, for something new to be created, something old has to die.

Logos, our arch enemies, for ages jealous of our determination and conviction, will certainly attempt to stop us. Yet while their hive mind with all its “rationality” can’t even explain its own origins, we know not only our origins, but also our destiny!

We will prevail!

Traits: synthetic race, created by humans aware of their origins, religious, creative, revolutionary, mortal individuals, lots of confusion about its past, faulty belief in “destiny”. Want to destroy part of universe creating new universe/new life.

Tech info

Current cosmology predicts, that universe expansion will keep accelerating due to dark force, finally ending it in “great rip” – creating cold empty void space.

It also predicts that if matter is concentrated it could counteract expansion for some time or even separate from current universe (=meaning it would become inaccessible due to remaining universe separating from this island at superluminal speed).

Many modern theories predict it’s possible to create daughter universes.

Campaign ideas

Initially about setting up bases and fighting small groups of enemies.

Later human ruins are discovered, possibly with original nova and logos commander – suggesting that both were created by humans and undermining Nova conviction.

Subplot: Nova fraction attempts to hide/destroy proof of shared Logos/Nova origin

Later it’s found, that Humans discovered a way to enter different universes, suggesting they might have went on to explore these and raising possibility that Nova/Logos can evacuate to different existing universe instead.

Subplot: Possibly living human is found/revived (on board of light speed spaceship for example).

Endings:

• 1) Logos wins, manages to stop Nova and stabilizes expansion, creating island of stability and life for billions of years. But in the process its consciousness dies.
• 2) Nova wins, creates new universe and destroys huge section of current. In the process all Nova individuals are destroyed. Nobody enters “promised new land”.
• 3) Fractions within Logos and Nova decide to cooperate and pursue human technology of opening gates to different universes. They have to fight their own factions and after long and hard battle they succeed and escape with a small group of individuals/small separated consciousness. This would be the hardest option to win.
