Missile Factory

With the combination of EMP and tacnuke into a single unit, and the requirement of a siesmic missile, this brings up the prospect of having a missile-silo like 'factory', thta can build a range of missiles.

This should probably be assistable, and build the missiles externally in a gantry or somesuch. This it would behave like a single factory, and can easily be rigged up by making the various missiles 1-shot statics made in a factory like a regular unit. Either that or we can have multiple stockpiling. It does raise a question of how many missiles the silo should be able to stockpile though. We can easily set up the script to move the construction around and place them at various points in the factory, (say 4 'slots' per silo), or just have one missile per silo. With various ranges on the missiles though, the unit should probably have several, colour coded(?) range rings.

Missiles

Tactical nuke
As current, or more focused on single-unit damage?

EMP missile
As current, or more focused on either single-unit damage or mass area effect?

Siesmic Missile
Smooths over an area. Perhaps causes very small amount of damage over a large area to ground units (like an earthquake). Even makes units 'tumble' with impulse (but not impulse directed outwards from explosion- thus would need scripting). This could be used to, say, make spiders fall down cliffs etc.

Napalm Missile
Sets a large area on fire, doing damage to anything within or entering that area for some time. Thus it acts as an area denial weapon.

Anti-Nuke
Stockpiling an antinuke into the factory would effectively make that factory an antinuke. This means we only need one unit for this role

Nuclear Missile?
Do we want this silo to take over from nuclear missiles entirely? Each missile would have to be very expensive. Possibly it could be some kind of upgrade to the factory.

Recon Satellite
Launches a satellites giveing intel on an area. Not sure precisely on the behaviour. Owl-like? One-time reveal? Hits the ground releasing a little recon beacon?

Annihilator Satellite
A starlight type weapon (only less powerful) that either has the starlights strafing fire, or does specific, prescision high damage shots. This is an anti-heavy, prescision strike weapon. Has a limited number of shots before expiring (possibly one).

MIRV?
Seperates into a large number of lighter missiles. Perhaps rains specifically targeted accurate weapons over an area (this may be like the Napalm missile behaviour, if we'd rather not use the Napalm in that capacity). Possibly serves as an AA weapon?

Which of these should be intercepted by anti-nukes? Only nuke? All?

Comments

Google Frog: I don't think nuke and anti-nuke should be included. The antinuke/nuke relationship reduces the number of buildings that must be killed in a base for the entire base to be destroyed. Multi-roling them with tacs would dilute this and add confusion.
Saktoth: Nuke is more problematic. But anti-nuke, why not? You have to actually build the missile for it to work, and each silo can only stock a few missiles. It allows us to go back to a stockpiling relationship, though since its assistable, it can be rushed (which is why we removed it). The only problem i see is mobile anti-nukes and their behaviour. I can see that you'd want the player to be able to snipe the tacnuke or the antinuke and make this decision be an important one, but the silo itself is factory, and can only stockpile so many missiles. Players will almost certainly make a seperate silo to stock antis and to stock tacs. Perhaps a player might make only one silo and stock a single anti-nuke just in case, and use the spare silo slots for seismic misssiles or others with a long range (presumably he wont make his anti on the frontline), but he'd definitely make two if he wants to use dedicated frontline tacnukes and still be safe from nukes.
Triarius: Anti-nuke sounds fine, as is replacing owl with satellite missile. Napalm missile sounds a bit iffy, as does annihilator sat (Although a proposal similar to  FOB makes sense). Perhaps only MIRV for AoE, Tac nuke for "sniping", recon sat, seismic missile, EMP missile and anti-nuke?
