Evil4Zerggin: Forgive my ignorance, but what's the point of a 600 range land-firing Crasher? Storm already outranges LLT and antiswarm, and 600 range isn't enough to outrange missile towers or HLTs. 800 range might be kind of wierd, though.

Licho: It will kill roach and tick.

quantum: Core has no artillery by design, just like Arm has not assault t1 kbot. It's not an accident. In fact, we should make more factories follow the t1 kbots model, imo.

Sak: At 600 range it would just be a samson. Which is probaly bad, as i dont even think there deserves to be samson/slasher, let alone samson/slasher/jethro/crasher. Perhaps if it arced or wobbled, or, something... Oh bots though, i agree, bots is awesome. However, t2 facs following their model too closely (Which they kinda do...) would just obsolete the t1 versions (Which they... yeah).

Car: There needs to be consistency in order to make the game easy to understand. A weapon type should behave similar no matter whose shoulder its mounted on. You've got your unguided rockets, arcing missiles, tracking missiles, etc. Make tracking missiles be the weapon that targets land and air. Then I don't have to think about which unit can shoot where. I will know that Jethro, Defender and Samson all have "tracking missiles." Different ranges and damage maybe but the same behavior.

Kaine: Definatly not. Its realisticly illogical if the crasher shoots the ground while the jethro dosn't, and its realisticly illogical that an anti-air kbot shoots the ground in the first place. Unless crasher gets a new weapon/role entirely, which I dont see happening.

Saktoth: Slasher/Samson/Defender totally invalidates your argument here, the jethro/crasher is actually the anomaly, esp since not even chainsaw fires the same missiles now. Anyway, weapon type, for standardization etc, is easy enough to change (look at what is happening with all the AA lasers arm are getting).

Kaine: I dont think the Slasher/Samson/Defender should be shooting ground units in the first place, so my arguement is completely valid. XTA has anti air kbots shooting at the ground, and every XTA game I spec I see jethro/crasher being the major t1 unit. Is it right that a unit designed for anti-air purposes should waste t1 ground as well? Anti air shouldn't target ground, just as anti-ground (heat ray, plasma) dosnt target the air. It just makes sense, and if we start having random units target both, it will just get confusing for new users.

Saktoth: This isnt XTA, in XTA this is a balance issue, the Samson is not very popular in CA. The fact more things dont target both is, i think, the more inconsistent part of our system. A lot of things do target air- stumpies (plasma), rockos, sumo (heatray) etc. Air is the ONLY thing other than Subs that has its own target categories, its own anti-weapons, its own special damage categories for a whole class of units. Every unit everywhere else in the mod can be killed by sufficient numbers of the units they counter. Everything at least does some damage to its attackers and cannot be killed with impunity unless outranged. Not so with air.

Spring has a robust physics engine for the simulation of different weapon types and their interactions. I think it should be used to the fullest extent. That being said, i dont think we can abolish AA-only weapons etirely, or the special damage categories, but weapon types should at least be consistent in what they fire at.
