CAGUI Concept Mockup (By Kaine)

Saktoth: IMO we should go for a clean, easy-to-read gui, taking up as little space as possible. We might have options for a graphical gui using starcraft-like metallic effects and flashing doodads and other useless stuff, but we should mostly try and maintain a clean and unobstructive gui. I think the wavy lines on the edges of boxes simply take up too much space, and the comic font is not compact and easy to read.

Licho: my GUI is already very different from what you see here. I hate being forced to use some style or sizes or components in my GUI. It should be customizable. My 1920x1200 and different set of widgets has to look differently than screen say from Khaos playing in 800x600.

Saktoth: Well thats a concept so they WILL look very different yes. Naturally you will be able to edit your layout, but the default layout should look as good and be as functional as possible, while having a minimum impact on performance. There is no suggestion that there should be any impact on a players ability to customize- in fact id rather have more options available in the menu (though often people are too lazy to even do that, and other times it doesnt save for them between sessions).

Kaine: Thanks for the comments, I agree that we should have the GUI very customizable, but not so customizable it gets confusing, and it should stay somewhat consistant with the theme we want to develop. Speaking of which, Im not sure exactly what style I should be going for anymore. Our cursors, buildpic background, and ect, revolve around a kind of "fun" theme, and for lack of a better word "silly", not in a bad way though. Yet our storyline in progress and unit organization is serious, deep, and ready to be developed into somthing even greater and more thought provoking. Both aspects of CA I love, but we can't just throw them both in without even mixing them together. So the question Im basicly asking is... WHAT theme do we want for CA?

(Ditching concept in favour of a totally new style...again. Ive decided to work towards getting rid of cartoony style, and I think Ive finally got a theme going that I like and can work off of. It ended up being simple to do yet visually appealing, like all my good stuff ends up being, heh. Its got a post-apocalyptic/metallic thing going on for it. Ill keep the comments for documentation. I may even make 2 seperate ones, one like im doing which is made to be as visually appealing as well as functional, and another thats stricly based for compactness and cleanliness. The most common linux styles are a good example of this. )
