Backup Player

Choose Backup in the faction dropdown to become a "backup player." This is essentially a cross between a spectator and a team member. You will start with no units but depending on the game options you may or may not receive units through sharing.

As a backup player you can "spectate" only your team and send them private messages, draw and place labels on the map so they may see it, none of which is possible if you are a regular spectator. Since you are on a team, you cannot see enemy units, allowing you to dispense advice to players on your team without having knowledge of enemy movements. This could be beneficial in allowing experienced players to help new ones.

Work in progress.

Stay On Team

Players who lose all their units will not be removed from their team to become specs. They can only become a spec by resigning or dropping from the game. This eliminates the need to bug allies to share you a unit if you are about to die.

Backup player share mode (Not Yet Implemented)

Three options in dropdown: (1) Backup player can receive units anytime. (2) Backup player cannot receive units. (3) If a player is removed from the team (for example dropping from the host), one backup may take his place by receiving a unit (through unit-sharing from another player or by using a .take command). First come first serve. This mode aims to try and maintain the same number of "active" players on a team as when the game began (without using a .cheat command). This third mode is intended to be used together with Stay On Team.
