Game Name
Since its not clear that we can use 0k, 0k was contentious in the vote anyway, and logos is now free as a name since its not being used as a faction name, it may be worth thinking further about the name for 1faction. Here are the name votes thus far:
- The vote that decided '0k', you can see its mostly abstains, not much passion here.
- Earlier vote, again ambivalence.
- Ecce Machina vs Robocracy.
Criteria:
- Googleable
- Descriptive
- 'Cool'
- Easy to remember
I've tried to sort the names by googleability. Please add more, discuss, add notes, ETC.
Open Conflict
Pros:
- Describes both the open source nature of the game and its theme
- Fairly googleable, but a common term in news articles etc.
Cons:
- Absolutely impossible to google
- Abbreviates to OC which conflicts with overclocking
- Sounds like a modern warfare game
Logus
Pros:
- Logos has been popular as a faction name, but Logos is not googleable.
- Fairly googleable, though its also an obscure word meaning 'enticing'.
Cons:
- Doesnt abbreviate
- Microwave company
Zero K
Pros:
- Abbreviates to 0k (possibly very high in alphabetical lists!)
- The most popular name among devs
- Has domain purchased and website working!
- Science sounding
- Invokes dark/cold atmosphere
Cons:
- Bottom of an alphabetical list when not abbreviated
- May already be taken for CA
- Name of a Rapper, design company, and other things.
Quantum Wars
Pros:
- Abbreviates to QW
- Popular in CAdler poll
- 'Scientific sounding'
Cons:
- Actually Nonsense
- Uses a developers name (vanity mod)
- Already the name of an indie game
Ecce Machina
Pros:
- Pertains directly to robots, though not war
Cons:
- A song by Falco
- Abbreviates to EM
- Latin, though most people understand 'Machina'
