We can't just remove it. Where would the mechs come from? I don't like it's ability to build a lot of bots though. Maybe leave it with pw/ak and a con but the rest just make it a replacement for factories.

Remove it after coming up with a solution to that. Perhaps nanos could build mechs and we could increase their cost a bit to compensate.

Reasons I don't like specops:

  • Specops is the last "combat engineer" left. We removed them from the game to make things consistent (mobile builds immobile and vice versa). As a con that builds units it could cause confusion for new people. It feels out of place to build glaives with a mobile con. However building a strider is like building a huge structure (like a building project) so it feels less out of place (as my above suggestion for putting them on nanos, or at least a special nano in licho's suggestion).
  • det comes up with crazy start-strats to use it in totally painful ways reminiscent of comm rushing that kills people at the start of games. His latest is using it to secretly build a bunch of nanos just outside view of someone's base behind a natural wall. Then the specops can get in range of the base and plop down an army instantly (of course I can see the whole thing happening as spec and sighing the whole time).
  • It is used to expand, like a constructor, but it doesn't have full con buildlist so it's inconsistent with other cons. Thus it is a special case in anything that involves con buildlists (I know we already have nanos as special cases but there's no choice for those).

If we removed it we could use KR's model for core aircon. I doubt it would be removed but SirMaverick made the poll to shut me up from spamming everywhere about it :)

Its fun unit and opens many game options. Yes its buildlist is a bit random but thats the price you have to pay..

Dont reduce this game to another run-of-the-mill RTS shit just because 1 unit is a bit random.

I'm the last person who wants run of the mill RTS. I am just glad there is a place for discussion. If det is showing it to be OP then specops could be at least modified, but now everyone is aware. I felt bad for 3dmodeler in that game.

If facs get price increased I assume specops will also be increased. A 1k m fragile bird is very risky to have that deep into enemy territory...

Except for the important fact that it's cloaked and stealthed, making it invincible so long as you're paying attention. See my above posts about det :P

Mechs lab and spec ops was imo a bad merge. It should be 2 units.

You need still some eco for that. You can scout and see what's outside your base.

You should not mix different topic in tickets (especially if they only treat certain bugs etc.). If it's separate issue it should be handled separately.

Idea: drop core specops, keep only arm's. Make it buildable from a factory.

Removing specops means removing T3. This poll offers no alternative. Make a poll/discussion with 2 choices for building T3. We could even split specops role and T3 builder role.

Removing specops means removing T3.

The polls origin are the spec ops properties, not T3. The unit merge just made it 1 unit. Removing spec ops can be down by removing cloak/stealth and all non-strider build options.

I still don't see a majority for that option from the poll/comments.

We could even split specops role and T3 builder role.

As I said, it was a bad merge imo.
