If the vote is Yes I'll enable all sorts of advanced widgets to someone with high lobby rank, and disable Nubtron for them.

Nubtron teaches you same things everyone knows by playing any *A mod!!

Thats why its pointless for rank>1

As Spring itself is just an engine and does not contain game content, we advice to go to the website of the game you want to play for an all inclusive installer. Below are some download pages of games using the Spring engine:

Spring 1944

Kernel Panic

That's the full list of installers so far. Not all people will gain a rank in BA. Do you really want to base our decisions off of BA?

Changed 2 years ago by CarRepairer

I'll put it another way...

Let's say many people come to us from BA such as 80%, and a few come from other mods, 15%, and about 5% start Spring brand new in CA with the 1 rank. You want only the 5% to get the tutorial.

The benefit to the 15% who get to see the tutorial is high but they won't get it.

The downside to the 80% from BA is they have to click on an X.

Cost/benefit?

Car .. have you EVER met anyone who claimed it was useful to him? Or have you EVER meta anyone trying to play CA before trying to play other *A mod?

On the other hand i can give you list of people who were confused, annoyed or simply could not learn how to close this thing!

Changed 2 years ago by CarRepairer

Yes I have met those who found it useful.

No I don't know if anyone has played CA without having played BA, but I don't assume it's 0%. There are other popular mods. What if it changes in the future and BA and *A is no longer the majority, would you change your mind?

If it's annoying to close that's a different issue and I don't deny it's a problem. I'll follow your suggestion and make X close it instantly.

If you want to ensure tutorial is never seen, then set it to only show if someone joins CA their first time while they are a one stripe. In this case I won't even bother and just leave it disabled by default.

Changed 2 years ago by licho

Ok then do it NORMAL way - ask with dialog if they want to run tutorial or not..

Noobies start at 1500, right in the middle. A 1500 is more likely to be worse at the game than a 1400 who has played a bit. A 1400 might easily be a 'power user' with lots of custom widgets/settings, while a new 1500. The only reason i havent advocated for noobies starting at below 1500 and slowly gaining non zero-sum rank over time is because so many 1500's are smurfs anyway.

Also, yes, smurfs, though anything we can do to make their lives an abject misery should be encouraged.

Depends what kind of widgets though. High ranked people will probably want to set up their own widgets.

Is ELO a good determinant of rank for balancing, etc? Yes.

Haven't you read the forum thread about this? They all want a clean setup - not all widgets enabled.

Even springie elo is not game dependent so it's no different from spring lobby rank. Someone use an s44 or KP installer to join spring, rack up an awesome elo on a springie that hosts those games, and never have heard of a metal extractor in their life.

I will vote Yes on a game-dependent springie elo as a determinant. But it's not that way.

Yes but the clutter is what scares off NEW people. Two-stripe people are long-time CA players so they don't mind.

The complaints come also from long-time Spring players.

I don't mean to discourage you but...

Hell no. I've been playing CA for a long while and disable most of the on-screen widgets (even the old mex overdrive because it was so big.) because I *HATE* the clutter. Its bad enough that we don't even have the same style widgets, but to have them in the middle of the screen?! I mean wtf there isn't any possible way someone could play with something in the middle of their screen.

Even if your assertion that long time CA players dont mind the horrid clutter... Even if that was true. "Yes but the clutter is what scares off NEW people." -- You freely admit that the clutter scares off new people. This is not ok. Less is More, KeepItSimpleStupid, Feng shwei, Clean-cut, foolproof, etc...

Anyway, what does "Spring Server LOBBY RANK is a determinant for someone's proficiency in CA?" even mean? what are we voting on?

Maackey, I was being facetious.. sarcastic.. joking.... purposely being a jerk. It must have been lost on you.

This is due the fact I mentioned earlier which upsets me that the it is suggested that nubtron should load up only in the intersection between the two unlikely events: 1 - (player joins CA for the first time) and 2- (player is a one stripe). This intersection is so rare it's not worth my time to even account for it, so might as well have nubtron disabled. Of course I'm not going to be in a light mood. Was jokes.

This poll is about something else than the question asks.

Vote should be renamed to what it actually is: "If the vote is Yes I'll enable all sorts of advanced widgets to someone with high lobby rank, and disable Nubtron for them."
