Strategy and Tactics (#5) - Make more constructors. (#94) - Message List
This is a common mistake a team player makes in 1v1's but it will improve your game in general. This comes back to my earlier post, but is more general advice on key points to try to change.
Firtstly, practice expanding with cons, rather than compushing. Keep your com at home for a change. You cant rely on your com alone for all your expansion so its best to learn how to expand without him. Classic problem for a large game team player who is used to pushing in a straight line down the map.
TURN REPEAT ON on your fac! It will let you mix units much more easily (Vital in CA!), as well as mixing constructors into your b/o. Dont order 100 of 1 unit. Even if you are going for, say, a flashspam strategy, you want to mix constructors for every 2-4 flash so use repeat (and hell, a few jeffies would be strategically wise).
Use your constructors to assist, rather than nanotowers. Nanotowers make your economy jump in spurts and bursts, cons let you grow your build power more smoothly. Having lots of cons around to expand, reclaim, secure, and replace defenses is also vital. Enable the factoryguard widget, it makes this much easier and means a fac with con/unit/unit repeat constantly expands its buildpower with 0 micro, while you expand your economy by taking cons off the fac as you need to. I cannot stress how important this widget is, its the ONLY reason i can play comet catcher.
Even if all you take from this is 'use repeat build orders' and 'use factory guard widget', they were two of the paradigm shifts, for me, that lead to a dramatic improvement in my game (Other notable ones being that reclaim can be the majority of your economy, buildpower is the third resource, micro is the 4th resource, and that trying to win now is better than trying to win later).
