General (#1) - Rename (#85) - Message List
I have some naming suggestions.
First, since your purpose is to eventually make a new game separate from TA but slowly and carefully, there is no reason not to rename the factions right now. If you want something that TA players can easily associate, I suggest LEG and PIT.
Next, since you're into the categorization of units (an excellent way to understand the game and which units counter which, as explained in the manual) rename the Raider (an assault vehicle, not a raider) and the Guardian (an offensive, not defensive static building) to prevent confusion for those who are learning.

Guardian and Raider: absolutely. IIRC, they were renamed somewhere in CA's history, but I don't know how the current names came back.
I'm not sure I like the Leg and the Pit :P

Aw you don't like LEG/PIT? What about HAND/NUCLEUS?
Anyway I got another one. How about a name trade for Venom the builder and Spider the EMP bot. Venom would be a perfect name for the EMP bot, which paralyzes its victim. As stated above it would also help new people remember things better.

The Raider is already the Ravager. The Guardian does need a name change (and description, im thinking something like THIS IS ARTILLERY NOT DEFENSE).
We will probably go with the pithy, 1-word names like Eye and Shield or such, over acronyms like GDI or UEF nonesense words like Nod or Zerg. But Leg and Pit are terrible and dont describe the factions at all.

Nod at least is a biblical reference, so its better than just made up words.
Zerg and Protoss are pretty good made up words though, as far as made up words go. But we dont want a war between the Xlaxthu and the Klackons or the Arikeena and the Barunaam. Or the X'l'y'z's'y and the Clam-Bar-To-Pe-Phots.
As for cloak and dagger, cloak is a term for a technology- too ambiguous. Dagger is a part of the phrase 'cloak and dagger' and has connotations to stealth (which core isnt).
More like cloak and HAMMER.

You probably wont want to use weapon names for both, and you wont want words that shorten to 'Dag' and 'Ham' (core and arm are never shortened, except perhaps core to cor which is pronounced the same).
